Why do we love to hunt? |
Simple...it's fun...it's exciting...it's in our blood! |
I love animals, every animal on the earth. Some I love to pet and play with. Others I enjoy watching. Some animals need to be controlled...and some need to be eaten to keep us healthy! |
I always feel a little sad when I kill one of God's cool creatures. But I know where our family's meat comes from. After reading the news clip on the left, it's obvious that some people actually believe that the grocery store MAKES meat! Some people aren't very smart. We don't buy our steak from the store and pretend that nothing had to die to feed us. My family knows that God put these animals on the planet for us to eat, and if we enjoy hunting...GREAT! Plus, the money mom saves at the grocery store she can use to buy me more bullets! |
When there are too many of any kind of animal, more than the land can feed, the animal suffers because their food supply becomes less and less as time goes on. The animal will starve to death. NOT COOL! All states try to control animal over-population by issuing a certain number of tags to hunters each year. This helps to guarantee the health of animals such as deer, elk, antelope, moose, and turkey. |
If we weren't allowed to hunt these animals, they would all eventually starve themselves out of existence! |
There are other animals, like the wild hog, that aren't even supposed to be here. They were brought to this country from Europe hundreds of years ago. They are the biggest, toughest, meanest, and hungriest animal in the woods! They eat anything and everything which leaves less for the deer, quail, turkey, pheasant, cows, horses, and they are extremely destructive to farmers crops. Lucky for us, wild hog tastes GREAT on the smoker! |
PREDATORS ~ Coyote, Bobcat, Wolf, etc....They're an awesome challenge to hunt. Super smart and tricky. They kill lots of ranch animals every year. Coyotes will attack a full-grown cow, but they're especially dangerous to the new-born calves. Don't ever let a grown-up tell you that coyotes don't kill cows...I've seen it happen! Bobcat prey on turkey, quail, rabbits, and our chickens! |
Skinned and tanned, coyote and bobcat fur make great pillows or look cool hanging on the wall! |
This coyote hide wouldn't have looked too great on our wall. This has got to be the sickest thing I've ever seen.....mange, it's a disease some animals get from being over-populated. |
Ten minutes before this picture was taken, this coyote was munching one of our chickens. He wouldn't have been able to survive through the coming winter without any fur. |
Other animals, like the Beaver & Prairie Dog, need to be controlled because they can cause lots of damage. Beavers will dam up rivers so folks & animals down-river won't get water. Prairie dogs destroy grazing land for cattle and horses. Not only do they eat all the grass, but they dig holes just the right size for a cow or horse hoof to get stuck. In the past, in some areas where the prairie dog population was huge, poison was spread to kill off the prairie dog towns. This ended up being a disaster! Not only were there lots of dead prairie dogs, but all the hawks, eagles, coyotes, fox, buzzards, bobcat, owls, badgers, and most importantly, the black-footed ferrets (now endangered) who eat prairie dogs were dying from the poison as well. |
Poison is a BAD THING! ........ Shooting prairie dogs is a GOOD THING! ........ Plus it provides a quick and easy meal for all the predators that eat them! |
So now if anyone asks "Why do you hunt?" you'll have lots of great answers! |
